I purchased this for our spare room to make more space. I am fairly handy at putting units together and this one was a little harder than most due to the size of the unit and weight. Some of the diagrams were hard to see the detail and it would have been nice to be able to go to a website and see further detail. But I phone up customer service at 4pm on a friday and got a response right away and they talked me through the issue. I mentioned I had broken a piece and they shipped it right away and I received it within 7 business days. The unit looks good and I am very happy with it.

Feels very solid, it looks good, assembly wasn't too bad. There are a few rough spots where I wish the finish was better than melamine with edge tape, and mine was missing a few screws and had a manufacturer defect, but it works great and in general I am quite happy with how it turned out. I would buy again and would recommend.

So far, we are very satisfied with this item. Setup was obviously somewhat long but went well, clear instructions. Quality product and thick. It looks like it could last very long time since it is used a couple of times per year.

Bought through Costco. Delivery to our front door was included. The driver was kind enough to help me move the boxes inside. There were 6 boxes. The heaviest single box was just under 200lbs. And the rest of the boxes weighed less. For the most part, I was able to open 1 box at a time. That is to say, I would assemble the bed and shelves in sections. I would NOT suggest unboxing all 6 boxes and trying to make sense of all the parts at once. Just take it one box at a time. Which leads to my first suggestion to BeStar (if they even read their own product feedback). TO BESTAR: Do a better job packaging ALL the components from Phase 1 in Box 1. Not just 95% of the components. I realize that you guys probably hired some smart engineers to figure out how to matrix all the parts into as few boxes as possible, but I'm telling you to go back to the drawing board and figure this out! Most times, I was able to move on to the next step(box) leaving the last step mostly complete. But I remember a few times where it created a little anxiety moving ahead to the next step without having the critical piece I needed to complete the previous step. I was able to assemble the bed entirely on my own. And while others have said that they needed 2 people, I was determined and can lift 50lbs on my own. When taken individually, no single part weighs more than 75lbs. And one only needs to slide and tip boards into place so I was never lifting the entire weight of the boards. Your mileage may vary based on your ability so please don't over exert yourself based on this review. I'm just saying that it is possible. The wood is good quality MDF with a laminate. So compared to the light weight particle board furniture from that blue and yellow company in Sweden, BeStar's wood feels a lot sturdier. MDF is stronger and denser than some cut woods but the veneer finish can't be repaired like wood, so take care not to scratch the finish during assembly. Finally, I'd like to talk about how long it took me. I saw another review that said it took two people 6 hrs. I tried to time myself but I didn't always remember to start the timer and or stop it, and there were a lot of interruptions from my kids, or someone comes to the front door. You know, life got in the way. Anyways, I was thinking that 1 person should be able to do this in 12 hours, but I think that there was also an efficiency lost from not having the synergy of teamwork, so I will estimate that it took me 16 hours to complete on my own. And I broke it up such that I would work on this 2-3 hours a day after work and then I did a 5-hour marathon on Saturday before my wife got mad at me for being unavailable for so long. And finally finished up with 90 minutes on Sunday. One regret, I have is that in assembling the book shelf first, I assumed that it was square. Next I assembled the bed frame and bolted the bed frame to the bookshelf and then bolted the bed frame to the wall. When I finally attached the bed to the bed frame, it is apparent that the bed frame is not perfectly square. So the right way to have done it would have been to put a level on the bed frame, then bolt the frame to the wall first such that it wouldn't flex from side to side, and finally, bolt the bookshelf to the unmovable bed frame. As it stands now, every time I go to close the bed, it hits on one side of the wall frame and causes increased damage with each use :( All in all, I really love the way this bed looks (Chocolate) and the price is hard to beat.

The quality and construction are impressive. The bed is very attractive and rock-solid when built and mounted properly. The finish is a high quality veneer, and the underlying particle board is thicker and heavier than any other furniture I've built. The only shortcoming is that the instructions are a little vague in spots, and you have to be able to think through the parts that are less specific (prior experience with assembling furniture at home is very useful). As others have said, the bed is very heavy, takes up a lot of room during construction, and is more complex than typical build-at-home furniture. But it is worth the time and effort - it is one of the most solid and useful pieces of furniture in my house.
